Boiler service

Boiler service

Although many people see their annual boiler service as an unnecessary expense, it’s essential that you have this vital check carried out every year to ensure that your boiler not only runs at maximum efficiency, but also that it is working properly - a faulty boiler can be very dangerous, and costly.

What is a boiler service?

Through daily use, deposits build up in your boiler and central heating system that reduce its efficiency, pushing up the cost of your energy bills.

An annual service carried out by a qualified engineer will involve a thorough clean, bringing your boiler back up to optimum efficiency, as well as a safety check to make sure there are no faults.

Why should I have my boiler serviced?

As well as improving the energy efficiency of your boiler, an annual service also reduces the risk that your boiler will break down - and if you’ve ever had to pay for emergency repairs, or had to be without heating and hot water in winter, you’ll know that avoiding this is well worth the cost.

Although new boilers are very safe and are unlikely to have faults after installation, there is always the chance that something could go wrong. And if you have an older boiler, then it is absolutely essential that you have your boiler checked regularly.

A Corgi or Oftec qualified technician will look for any faults or damage to your boiler, checking that it’s running safely and that no carbon monoxide - the potentially lethal gas that can be released by faulty boilers - is present.

Boiler insurance

If you don’t want to fork out for your annual service in one go, you can sign up to a boiler cover plan that will include it in your cover.

Boiler insurance starts from around £10 a month and if you take out a plan that includes your annual boiler safety check you could save yourself between £60 and £90 according to Corgi.

You can also sign up to a service-only plan that allows you to pay for you annual safety check in easy, monthly instalments.
